Module programme May-July

I’ve now posted the rest of the foot and ankle module programme. As you can see, there are still a few uncertainties in this so it’s important to keep watching the blog.

Details of the May 2nd programme will be posted next week.

28th March Post-traumatic ankle problems

Read the RCT by Pijnenburg et al (Operative and functional treatment of rupture of the lateral ligament of the ankle. A randomised, prospective trial. JBJS 2003;85B:525-30). OK, not the greatest trial ever but large, reasonable outcome measures and long-term follow-up. Given the findings, why do you think we haven’t changed over to more aggressive repair of lateral ankle ligament injuries? Can you find other studies to fill in the gaps in the puzzle?

New pages in the Hyperbook

To support the trauma teaching in the module, we have added several new pages on midfoot and forefoot injuries. Several of the trauma sections have recently had illustrations added and this process will continue.

I’ve also updated the introductory page a bit.

I’m also going to change the layout of the blog so there will be:

an introductory page
a page for each of the sessions of the module (generally each one will be added a couple of weeks before that session)
the main blog for arguments

Let me know what you think.

I’ve attached an Excel file with the module plan to the end of April. This is still subject to changes.

The first meeting is at Bolton on 29th February, led by Mr Henderson, topic hindfoot injuries.

This is the blog for the East Lancs Foot and Ankle Hyperbook. It’s for everyone who wants to contribute to the development of evidence-based education in foot and ankle surgery.

From now till July 2008 it will also be the support for the North-West of England orthopaedic higher specialist training programme foot and ankle module. The programme will be posted here as it is firmed up. There will also be supporting reading and hopefully cases, journal club and arguments.
